Keys and settings
Every key of the default profile, how to rebind them, the themes, and where config.toml lives.
? lists every key at any moment, dialogs included. This page is the same list, to keep at hand.
Keys (default vim profile)

The command line takes :q (quit), :w name (save a playlist), :view albums, :rate 4,
:convert, :organize, :identify…
Another profile, other keys
Not a vim person? The media profile uses the arrows, ctrl+← ctrl+→ for
previous and next, q to quit:
[interface]
keymap = "media"
And any command can be rebound:
[keys]
next_track = ["n", "right"]
toggle_pause = "space"
Settings
Most settings are in the settings dialog, O: ↑ ↓ pick a section, → steps in, esc backs out. Changes apply when you close it, after a confirmation, and amp offers to restart when one needs it.
Underneath, it is a plain text file, config.toml:
| System | Settings | Index and logs |
|---|---|---|
| macOS | ~/Library/Application Support/amp/ |
same folder |
| Linux | ~/.config/amp/ |
~/.local/share/amp/ |
| Windows | %APPDATA%\amp\ |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\amp\ |
What belongs to the interface alone — theme, key profile, language, layout — lives beside it in
ui.toml, so the terminal and the window can each have their own.
Themes
Twelve, switched live: sage (the default, and this site’s colours), glacier, lagoon, aurora, dusk, abyss, orchid, ember, rose, forest, sand, graphite.
[interface]
theme = "dusk"
view = "albums" # the view amp opens on
Covers
amp shows real images in kitty and Ghostty, half blocks elsewhere. Force a mode with
AMP_IMAGES=kitty, iterm, blocks or none.
